The Lorax Blu Ray 3D + DVD Combo Movie Review

The Lorax comes to DVD + Blu Ray 3D on August 7, 2012. My two boys were so excited to get their hands on this blu-ray 3D + DVD combo pack because we didn’t get a chance to see The Lorax in theaters. We received the combo pack in the mail yesterday and have watched the movie two times already.

The Lorax taken from a best selling Dr. Seuss book of the same name (one of the very few we don’t own) and re-imagined for the big screen, centers around a town void of nature yet full of plastic aptly named Thneedville. Here we meet teenage Ted who has a crush on his neighbor Audrey. Audrey wants a real live tree so Ted will do anything to find Audrey a tree. As Ted’s search for a tree begins, he meets the greedy Once-ler and discovers the story of the Lorax. The story of the Lorax as told by the Once-ler is such a fun, silly, and meaningful adventure. In the end Ted finds a tree seed and brings Thneedville back to life.

The Lorax is a wonderful family movie with an important message about greed, about taking care of our Earth, and about not needing useless junk. Older kids and even adults will get much more out of it if the movie is used as a conversation starter. The positive message displayed is especially important for today’s technology obsessed materialistic kids even if they are only exposed to it for a moment in between catchy songs and those adorable little bears (bar-ba-loots)! With an all-star voice cast including Danny Devito, Zac Efron, and Taylor swift this movie is sure to please. Anything Dr. Seuss inspired gets an A+ from me!  The ultimate takeaway from The Lorax movie and book with an ecological undertone comes from the Dr. Seuss quote:

Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot,
nothing is going to get better. It’s not.
