Holiday Gift Pick: ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas Record a Story Review

One of my most favorite things to do is read books to my two boys. I’m always looking for new books we can read together and interact with.

Recently Publications International contacted us to review their Record a Story book line and we agreed.  I’ve seen these record-a-story books out in stores but had neglected to purchase any because we already owned some of the regular book titles.

Essentially the Record a Story books are books that have a recording feature where you can record yourself reading the story. Then when your child turns the pages they will hear your voice reading the story. It’s a neat concept! Some titles include ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas and Guess How Much I Miss You.

When the ‘Twas The Night Before Christmas Record a Story arrived via our favorite UPS mailman, our 6 yr old son opened it and asked me to read it to him. First I read the directions on how to record the story so that I could record my voice and surprise him with my voice in the book once we were done with it. Once he realized you could record your own voice, he wanted to record himself and did it over and over. Let’s just say he was quite happy with it!

Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the Record a Story book. It’s easy to do and would make such a meaningful gift. The cool thing about these books is that you can use them a number of different ways. You can record your own voice for your child, your child could record themselves reading the story, or you could have each family member read a page. This is also a wonderful gift idea for grandparents who live far away and don’t often get to read to their grandchildren. They could record themselves reading it and then send it to their grandchildren. This is also a great idea for other loved ones who live across the world.

Publications International is also participating in “Operation Record A Story” where they are donating 5,000 Record a Story books to troops deployed overseas. Soldiers can record themselves reading a story then send it home to their kids. What an awesome idea and amazing gift for a child with a parent overseas! You can find more information here

Where To Buy: You can buy the record a story books at Wal-Mart and other retailers including the Record a Story website.   The suggested retail price is $19.99 but right now you can buy it online at Amazon HERE for under $12 and FREE Shipping when you spend $25!

Disclosure: We were sent a sample copy of this book for review consideration. For more information please read our full disclosure policy here

I love that book! Recording a story is a great present for the kids. My kids like a certain part of the book. I try to write a sentence from that part and write it on an Expo whiteboard in their room so they can remember and practice reading their favorite part. Today I ordered new whiteboards for them and got free shipping and markers!
