Chester Raccoon And The Acorn Full of Memories Kids Book Review
If you have a school age child or even if you homeschool like we do, chances are that you have read The Kissing Hand by Audrey Penn. It’s a beautiful and encouraging story about starting school for the first time that I recommend to anyone who has a child about to enter school for the first time.
In her latest book, Chester Raccoon and the Acorn Full of Memories, Penn touches on another difficult subject - death. In this book Chester Raccoon and his friends have to deal with the passing of a school friend named Skiddil Squirrel. The book doesn’t go into detail on what happened to Skiddil Squirrel, only that there was an accident. Chester and his friends are encouraged to make memories of Skiddil Squirrel to comfort them when they are missing him. The illustrations are beautiful and the story wouldn’t be complete without them. Chester Raccoon And The Acorn Full of Memories is a positive book for parents and children (ages 4-10) to discuss death, funerals, and memorials for loved ones who have passed away.
