MaGiQuest Myrtle Beach Review

This week we are vacationing in the north Myrtle Beach area. While here I thought I’d venture into the world of “travel” reviews here on A Mom’s Review since we like to try out a few new attractions each time we visit. When we visit NMB we spend most of our time splashing in the waves, building sand castles, and relaxing on the beautiful beach. On rainy and cool vacation days (and there’s always at least one) we like to check out some of the local attractions. And, since today was one of those days we decided to make our way to MaGiQuest at Broadway at the Beach in the main Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, area.

So what exactly is MaGiQuest? MaGiQuest is the world’s largest live action role-playing game for both kids and adults with a magic/wizard theme. Upon entering your purchase a wand to play the game with. The great thing about this is that you get to keep your wand and reuse it for each location you play at. It also keeps all of your completed quests and personal info stored as well. Since we had never been before we weren’t sure what to expect or even how to play. However, our worries were quickly put at ease when we were taken to a mini training session before we started on our adventure.  We chose the easiest quest since this was our first time playing. In the beginning it was a bit confusing but we eventually got the hang of it and ended up finishing up our first quest in about an hour. All four of us now have our lightening power! Woohoo! ;)

What We Like About MaGiQuest:

Lots of fun for kids who enjoy video games and Harry Potter like stuff!

The game gets kids up and physically active.

It’s indoors which is a great way to spend a rainy day at the beach.

We also love the whimsical and realistic scenery, and props. Our 5 year old was mesmerized by opening up the treasure chests and other assorted items with his wand.

The game is educational, adventure-filled, and enchanting for kids.

What We Don’t Like About MaGiQuest:

The initial cost to play is a little expensive. A family of 4 should expect to pay at least $100 for 90 minutes of play time. However, like I mentioned above, you get to keep the wand and reuse for each new adventure which means for each time you go back the cost is less. It would be great if there was a discounted all day or half-day play option (and there may be) since completing all quests would take several hours for most people especially if younger kids are coming along.

This is a popular + crowded attraction (even in the off season) which, understandably so, can lead to a host of problems including kids running around bumping into you and wand trouble due to one too many people pointing their wand at an object at the same time.

Conclusion:

Overall,we definitely recommend MaGiQuest for a fun family adventure if you are in the Myrtle Beach area. There are also several other MaGiQuest locations throughout the United States and abroad with a new one just opening up at the Mall of America.

Both our boys both 5 and 8 really enjoyed MaGiQuest so I’m sure we will be visiting again. Surprisingly I enjoyed the game and the atmosphere just as much as the kids did! This game is best for kids ages 7 and up since it’s basically an indoor scavenger hunt that requires lots of reading and deductive reasoning skills. You can also compete in duals and purchase magical themed items in the gift store. My two biggest tips for MagiQuest newbies are to go in with an open mind and don’t forget to wear comfortable shoes.

Visit the MaGiQuest website now for more information or to find a MaGiQuest near your home.

Disclosure: We were provided with 4 free tickets ( one for each member of our family, 2 kids/2 adults) to attend MagiQuest for review consideration. To read our full disclosure policy, click here.
