Long John Silvers Fresh Side Grille Review
Long John Silvers has always been known for it’s deep fried fish and fries. And, while it is delicious, it’s not the best option if you are trying to eat healthy. Recently Long John Silvers,a division of Yum Foods, introduced their Fresh Side Grille menu options. You can choose between Shrimp, Salmon, and Tilapia along with fresh vegetables, rice, and a bread stick. The great thing about these meals is that they are below 350 calories each depending on what menu items you choose.
On my visit to try out the new Fresh Side Grille menu, I ended up trying out the shrimp scampi meal because the lady behind the counter suggested it. When my food arrived, I noted that my meal and the photo of the meal looked drastically different. In all honesty, I know I shouldn’t expect the meal to look EXACTLY like the menu picture but I expected it to look better than it did simply because most of the other meals served at LJS have always looked like the picture on the menu.
Anyway, now on to the taste test…
Small pieces of shrimp were presented on a bed of soggy rice. The shrimp tasted like it had just come out of a microwave and the rice would have been okay if it wasn’t so watery and garlicky. All in all I was very disappointed with this specific meal and would not order it again. With that being said, the vegetable medley, corn on the cob, and bread stick tasted good but the shrimp and rice really needs improvement.
Overall, I suggest trying these meals out and deciding for yourself. Even though I didn’t enjoy the shrimp scampi I do plan on going back and trying the grilled pacific salmon meal. Hopefully the soggy rice was just a one-time cook error. I’d also like to add that I’m still a fan of Long John Silvers and I’m excited that they are offering healthier menu options for those who want them.

I was very disappointed today when I went to use a coupon for your freshside grilled fish. The large page of coupons showed this item at the top, and had a coupon for $1. off. When I went to purchase it, they said it only applied to the most expensive dish. The coupon should have boldly stated that the dollar off did not apply to the pictured one as shown but to the more expensive one. I spent more than I planned on and may not go back again.
