That’s why were excited to share with you 10 cost-cutting tips for your home this winter. In addition, we want to share with you some inexpensive energy-saving curtains, Eclipse.

Recently we were sent some energy-savings curtains from Eclipse. These curtains come in several different colors and styles to fit your taste and windows. What’s great about these curtains is that they block out light, noise, and cold. If you have an older home or on’t have double pane windows then the Eclipse curtains would be a great investment this winter as they truly cut costs, and you will feel warmer too!

After trying these curtains out in our Master bedroom and seeing how well they do I plan on getting two sets for our boys bedroom. Overall, A Mom’s Review definitely recommends the energy-saving Eclipse curtains.

And, now here are the 10 cost-cutting tips we promised you!

1. Curtains can really cut costs. Adrienne Van Dooren, an interior designer and author of “The House that Faux Built: Transform Your Home with Paint, Plaster and Creativity,” recommends homeowners purchase energy-saving curtains like Eclipse, which are critical because in a lot of older homes the cost of changing windows can be exorbitant. “Windows are really the weak link in efficient home heating and cooling, and quality energy-saving curtains provide 85% of the benefit of double-glazed low emissivity windows.”

2. BUT if you live in an older home and really want to make the upgrades, the time to do it is now, so you can save some money this winter. Consider Energy-Star windows and doors, which will help lower energy bills. Still, use an energy-saving noise-reducing blackout curtain as they will provide that extra security and cost-savings.

3. Throw it down. According to Page Rien, a designer with HGTV’s Hidden Potential, suggest homeowners lay down area rugs also help lock warmth in your room if you have hardwood floors.

4. Do sweat the small stuff. Run now to the store and purchase programmable thermostats, timers for lights, and LED light bulbs.

5. Weatherize your home. Caulk and weatherstrip any doors and windows that leak air.

6. Check for and plug any gaps around pipes, ducts, fans and vents that go through walls, ceilings and floors from heated to unheated spaces.

7. Clean the furnace filter before the new heating season so it can work at its proper capacity.

8. Reduce hot water use. By taking short showers instead of baths and lowering your hot water heater from 150 degrees to 120 degrees, you can shave off your energy use.

9. Remove window air conditioners or install a cover to stop drafts.

10. Try not to forget… Clean the lint filter on your dryer after every run, so that clothes dry faster, conserving energy. Adjust the water level on the washing machine to match the load size, especially when using hot water. Try using only a cold rinse. Unplug those appliances that are not regularly in use.
