I have owned several different brands of USB Flash drives in the past. Without question, the Sandisk drives have always been the most reliable and durable. The problem with other brands is they would begin to fail after excessive reading and writing, and/or the USB plug would become damaged from packing them around on my keys, or in my pocket. The caps on the other brands I have owned were always falling off exposing the USB plug to dust and other damage. This isn’t a problem with the Sandisk Cruzer Drives because their USB ports easily retract inside their own casing.
We (my family and I) mainly use our USB Flash drives for playing video and audio files. The brunt of the use comes from streaming music in our car while traveling, or just relaxing at home listening to music on our stereo or computer. Almost all modern car and home stereos support USB drives these days. We love our music, and it is usually always playing so we need durable drives capable of constant use and abuse.
I bought my first two Sandisk Micro Cruzer’s 1GB a few years ago, then later the Sandisk Micro Cruzer 2GB, after several of my off brand USB drives begin failing when streaming my music. Sure the Sandisk drives are a little more expensive, but their reliability is second to none. I still use these Sandisk drives today without any problems.
Recently, I received the Sandisk Cruzer Titanium Plus 4GB. Needless to say, this is another fantastic USB 2.0 Flash drive by Sandisk. As with all the other Sandisk Cruzer models, this model is fast, sports a sleek compact design with a retractable USB plug, has a very durable metal crush resistance casing, and has a large storage capacity. With 4GB I can store approximately 400 mp3 songs all on a space smaller than my pinky finger. The drive comes pre-installed with software that will allow you to password protect your confidential files.
Another great feature of the Sandisk Cruzer Titanium Plus 4GB is the encrypted online backup service. This online backup service will automatically backup the data on your flash drive when you plug it into any computer connected to the internet. The service is easy to setup. All you have to do is supply a valid email address and a password to set up your account. I could see this feature being very beneficial to the college student needing to protect their homework files, or that business person always on the go. Also, if you ever accidentally delete a file, then the Sandisk backup service has got you covered.
Bundled with the drive is a 6 month online subscription to BoomerangIt.co. This is a nice bonus to go along with your Sandisk flashdrive. Bye the way, BoomerangIt.com is a tagging/labeling service to help you recover your belongings if they are ever lost. However, I wouldn’t consider purchasing any additional coverage at BoomerangIT just for an inexpensive flash drive, now my Nikon D40 is a different story. In my opinion, the data on the drive is what is irreplaceable, not the drive itself. Sandisk already has you covered with their online backup service if you were to lose the drive.
Overall, this is a great product that I would highly recommend. The Sandisk Cruzer Titanium Plus 4GB is fast, compact, offers lots of storage space, and is strong enough to store it in almost any environment without worrying about dust and damage. The other features such as online backup and password protecting files that I previously mentioned are nice bonus features. This would make a great stocking stuffer!
