2008 Fall Family Vacation Product Picks!
Most families take their vacations during the Summer but this year we decided to wait until the more budget friendly month of October so that we could have a cheaper and longer vacation with our extended family. With vacations comes a long list of must-have items and we want to share a few of our favorites from our vacation with you below.
Destination: North Myrtle Beach, S.C.
Pros: family friendly atmosphere and affordable especially during early Fall.
Cons: not very tech friendly, no free or even affordable wi-fi for vacationers in condos or houses.
Safety: We were asked to try out the Audiovox DIY Collision Avoidance System some time ago, and what better time to test it out than on our 9 hour drive to the beach. This wireless rear observation system was very easy for my husband to install and it worked just like it was supposed to when we put our car in reverse.
Features:
2.5 ” LCD color display with night vision, 2.4 GHz wireless receiver and transmitter which eliminates wiring, automatically displays image when vehicle is put into reverse, and the monitor mounts on the dash or windshield.
Overall, A Mom’s Review recommend this as a very affordable safety solution for families with small children and/or large vehicles. Price: $99.99 You can get more information on this product at the Audiovox website.
Keeping Everything Clean & Fresh On The Go: Our mini bottles of Febreze To Go were perfect for in the car and to freshen up our vacation condo. A definite must have! We wash a lot of clothes on vacation so I had to bring along my favorite laundry detergent - Purex Natural Elements. The Zout stain remover came in very handy for all the kids clothes we had to get stains out of every day. It even work exceptionally well on tough stains!
Healthy Snacks On The Go: Since we had such a long drive we knew we’d need some healthy snack options on hand. Here were our favorites!
Honest Foods: Like healthy and filling snacks? The Honest Foods Granola Planks in Biueberry Vanilla and the Country Squares in Chocolate Peanut Butter were so delicious you wouldn’t even know they were good for you! We ate them for breakfast too!
Stretch Island Fruit Co.: The Stretch Island Fruit Co. fruit leathers in Summer Strawberry were a favorite among all the kids. Our 4 year old son who has eosinophillic esophagitis was able to enjoy his very own “fruit-roll ups”every day on the beach!
Peanut Butter & Co. : If you like peanut butter and chocolate as much as we do then you’ll absolutely love the Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter from Peanut Butter & Co. We eat it on sandwiches, apples, and even make homemade cookies with it! Plus there’s no corn syrup or trans-fat in this peanut butter! It was another must-have for our vacation!
Pepperidge Farm Gold Fish: Another healthy snack for the kids! Their wholesome, tasty, and great for when your on the go!
Tasty Breakfast Treats: Pillsbury Grands Freezer Cinnamon Rolls made with real Cinnabon cinnamon! Who can resist these? What’s great about this new product as opposed to the original rolls is that the rolls are frozen, and you can bake as many or as little cinnamon rolls as you want at one time! We had these for breakfast several days in a row on vacation because everyone enjoyed them so much!
Yummy Dinners The Whole Family Can Help With: We had a pizza night where everyone got to make their favorite pizzas! We used the NEW Pillsbury Thin Crust Pizza Dough! Each pizza turned out perfect and everyone loved the flavor of the dough. These convenient and ready to use pizza doughs from Pillsbury are budget friendly priced at only $2.49 per crust. And, don’t forget to check out all the cool pizza recipes on the Pillsbury website. Another great product we tried out was the Pillsbury Recipe Creations and I’ll be sharing more about that product with you during the upcoming holiday season.
For spectacular high-quality memories: Nikon Cameras. We use the lower-priced Nikon DSLR - the Nikon D40 camera and LOVE it! The newer pricier Nikon D90 with video is now available. Oh, how we’d love to get our hands on one of those. For now, the Nikon D40 with additional lenses takes exceptional quality photos and is perfect for families. See the Nikon D40 in action on our flickr photos page.
Our Favorites For Getting Clean: Head & Shoulders Classic Clean Shampoo & Conditioner for the adults! It has been a while since I’ve used Head & Shoulders shampoo. Wow, was I surprised by the new look and smell of Head & Shoulders. Did I mention its great for your hair too? We opted for the Johnson & Johnson’s body wash & shampoo for the kids!
There you have it - our 2008 family vacation picks. We can’t wait to bring you our 2009 vacation picks in July or August 2009.
