Madagascar Blu-Ray Review

Madagascar was the first movie I had the opportunity to watch in blu-ray format. We also own the DVD version of Madagascar which looks great for a DVD. However, the DVD version doesn’t even compare to the 1080p resolution offered in the blu-ray format. The blu-ray version is simply a breath-taking viewing experience when viewed on a High Definition Display. The textures, lighting, and shadows in the rendered environments are just visually stunning.
Even the fur on the animals is very detailed and quite realistic. Furthermore the 5.1 Dolby True HD offered in the blu-ray version really recreates that theater experience. Props to Dreamwork Animation for releasing this fantastic movie on Blu-ray.

There are also plenty of extra content included on the blu-ray version which includes a detailed commentary from the film’s directors about the making of Madagascar. And other featurettes such as “Behind the Crates,” “Penguins in A Christmas Caper,” Enchanted Island, “ “The Tech of Madagascar,” “Penguin Chat,” and “Mad Mishaps,” Other extras included are Mad Trivia Pop-up which uses subtitles to display interesting details and facts about different scenes and characters. Finally, the Dreamwork Animation Jukebox which includes music and videos from other animated films.

All in all Madagascar is an entertaining family movie with that will generate plenty of laughs from adults and children. There is a good mix of both adult and child humor included in the script that will keep people of all ages entertained. My favorite thing about the movie is the voice-overs. Chris Rock as Marty the Zebra and Ben Stiller as Alex the Lion are hilarious. I still crack up every time I think about Alex freaking out on the tranquilizer darts.

Synopsis: A pack of not-so-wild animals experience some serious culture shock when they move from the Big Apple to the Mighty Jungle in this computer-animated comedy. Alex (voice of Ben Stiller) is a lion who enjoys a charmed life as one of the leading attractions at a zoo in New York City’s Central Park. While Alex and his pals Marty the Zebra (voice of Chris Rock), Gloria the Hippo (voice of Jada Pinkett Smith), and Melman the Giraffe (voice of David Schwimmer) are happy with their lot in life, they occasionally have a certain curiosity about the outside world, and when the zoo’s penguins decide to make a break for it, Marty follows them into the city. Alex, Gloria, and Melman set out to find Marty before he gets into trouble, but they’re a bit too late, and soon the zookeepers have decided that the animals are restless and need to be returned to the wild. Soon the critters find themselves living on the coast of Madagascar, where they quickly discover they aren’t quite suited for living in the wild. Madagascar also features the voice talents of Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter, and Sacha Baron Cohen (aka Ali G).
