SienteSiente: Night Songs from Around the World, a collection by classical guitarist Hilary Field and vocalist Patrice O’Neill arrived on my doorstep at the perfect time. It came the day my family and I were leaving on a road trip. We had planned our departure to coincide with our toddler’s bedtime so she would, hopefully, sleep for the majority of the three hour car ride. We settled into the car, popped in the cd and by the third track, little eyes were growing heavy.

“Mom, this music is making me sleepy” was heard from the back seat and then, slumbering silence.

Once our child is asleep, we usually shut the children’s music off. This time, we let it play. This music wasn’t patronizing or annoying. It was absolutely beautiful, proving that these lullabies aren’t meant only for children, but for grownups, too.

Siente, with it’s warm, soothing vocals and rich instrumentation, will take you on a musical journey around the world with gentle songs from Russian, Spanish, Indonesian, Guatemalan, Italian, French, Sephardic and other traditions, sung in their native language and English. Song lyrics are included in the cd insert booklet along with original artwork created by Patrice O’Neill. The artwork is a tender touch that I especially enjoyed. Yellow Tail Records is planning to release a companion storybook/art book to the Siente compact disc.

Now, here is your chance to make this cd yours!
